April Fools' Wrapup
April Fools' Day is one of my favorite holidays, mostly because of the huge number of jokes that pop up on the internet. It seems that just about every big website switched something up yesterday, so I wanted to take the time to list out some of my favorites:
Virgle
- Google's partnership with Virgin to colonize Mars. Really detailed plans of how they would do it and what it would all look like. Impressive, I wish it were true.
Gmail
- Google announced a new feature for Gmail: Custom Time! With this one could easily send an email pre-dated in order to make deadlines, game contests, and remember birthdays even after you missed them! They even had the ability to send messages that arrived "read". The catch though, was that you were limited to a mere 10 custom-timed messages a year lest people lose faith in the accuracy of time.
Google Calendar
-
When adding new events to your calendar, Google added an "I'm Feeling Lucky" button next to the "Add Event" button. Clicking this placed an event called "Date with x" on the day you were creating an event. Some entertaining date I got were:
- Lois Griffin
- George W. Bush
- Paris Hilton
Good Stuff.
Blizzard
Tauren Marines in Starcraft II
- extremely powerful tauren marines!
Molten Core for Atari 2600
- Has sound! 10 unique bosses with 8 unique models! Move in 8 unique directions! Classic.
Bard class in WotLK
- Guitar Hero-style guitar playing to activate abilities.
Wowhead
Redid their frontpage to look like Thottbot.
WoWInsider
Turned into Hello Kitty Online Insider (HKOInsider) for the day, complete with articles on the HKO.
Thank you internet, you made my day.
