Life is a Curious Quest

Notre Dame

Yesterday, Augusto and I decided to check out Notre Dame. A short trip on the subway got us mostly there, and a short walk later we were confronted with this:

As with most of  things we've visited so far, the size of the structure was simply impressive. However, the real beauty of Notre Dame is in the fine detailing over every inch of the building, inside and out. The detailing around the doors, the twenty-something statues carved into the front of the church, all the gargoyles and garnishings on the towers...it was quite a sight. The interior was quite impressive too, with all the high vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and intricate columns. There's something special about stone buildings...it all just feels so much more epic.

After looking through the inside, we decided to go up into the towers, where we got a great view of the city.

It also gave us a great chance to get a closer look at some of the detailing of the towers.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed visiting the church. There's really something lost in pictures of places like this, and it was an awesome experience to get to see it in person.
