Life is a Curious Quest

Quarter 3

It's been a while since I last posted something, but with the new quarter comes renewed motivation to write stuff. Also, some of the experiences I've had during my short time in the Spring quarter really deserve to be shared, so I figured I'd do so.

I'll start with a run-through of my classes:

PHYS 2A - First in a 4-course physics series aimed at engineering majors. This should be easy become it will mostly be covering motion, which I understood most clearly in the AP Physics I took in high school.

DOC 3 - The last in the "Dimensions of Culture" series required by Thurgood Marshall College. This one focuses on analyzing society through pop-culture, media, etc. Looks much more interesting than the previous two classes in the sequence.

MATH 20D - Ugh, math. I never thought I'd say it, but math is getting really tough and obscure and is quickly becoming my least favorite subject. On the upside, the professor is an old woman who is really quirky and entertaining. She keeps me laughing numerous times throughout lecture (in a good way).

CSE 21 - The professor freaks me out, and is the source of a great story:

The first day of class, we all sit down and the professor goes into the typical first-day-of-lecture speech. The typical stuff is covered: don't talk in class, be on time, don't read in class. He also mentioned that he doesn't allow computers to be used during class (this doesn't happen all too often, but still isn't completely out of the ordinary). Class goes on, but a girl in the front of the room was reading a book. The professor, a little annoyed, reminded her that reading was not permitted. "Oh, sorry", she says, and puts the book down. A couple seconds later, she picks the book back up and continues her reading. The professor storms over to her seat, yanks the book out of her hands, and slams it on her desk; "I SAID NO READING!". Everyone is a little unsettled, with odd glances being traded back and forth around the room. The professor continues, and everything appears to be alright. Only a couple of minutes later, though, the professor looks back and sees a student using his computer. Again, he storms over to the student's seat, and the class watched in horror as he grabbed the laptop and bent the screen completely around backwards, destroying it. At this point I was FREAKED OUT. I was about ready to leave the class, fearing what this psycho would do next. The professor then walked back up to the front of the room and said, "I'd like everyone to meet our TA's". Guess who stood up. Yep, the victims of his wrath smiled and waved at the confused classroom. Wow. I guess it was April Fools' Day after all.

Still though, that guy's computer got munched and I'm not sure if he really meant to destroy it. Either way, the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.

As for the class, it seems to be another tough math class building on the logic/proofs class I took last quarter (CSE 20).

So that's the schedule. This quarter looks to be a little tougher than last, but not too bad.
