The Story So Far
I'll start off with a bit of information about the situation I'm in right now.
I just finished up my second week of classes (out of ten) at UCSD. It was a little rough at times, but I made it through and I'm feeling good about next week. I'm currently taking 4 classes and 1 freshman seminar for a grand total of 17 units:
MATH 20B - a more advanced calculus course than 20A that I got into with my AP Calculus score
DOC 1 (DOC - Dimensions of Culture) - the first in a 3-part series of GE classes for my college (Thurgood Marshall College) that focuses on social equality and issues like race, gender, class, and sexuality.
CSE 12 (CSE - Computer Science and Engineering) - "Basic Data Structures and Object-Oriented Design", my most difficult class. This class is a programming course and has been exclusively in C so far.
MUS 7 - a course examining the intersection of music and technology. Interesting idea, but so far it has been a bunch of reading and lectures that don't seem to relate to the course.
On a side note, I wanted to clarify my use of the word "college". "College" can have two meanings here:
- Referring to UCSD, as in, "I am in college"
- Referring to a college within UCSD, like my college Thurgood Marshall College.
To be clear, the university is split into six different colleges and each student is assigned to one. Each college has their own dorms, cafeterias, and GE's. Your college has no limiting effects on your major. Though usually each college's housing is located in one area, I am living in overflow housing away from my college. My entire building, though located in Revelle college, is full of Thurgood Marshall students.
I'll try to post to this blog a few times a week, but I'm not sure it will work out in the end. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them!
